  • Let yet another work week begin.  For some reason I’m never tired
waking up on Monday morning.  When my alarm goes off, I’m pretty
much up.  I’m not sure if it’s just me, but it’s really Tuesday
and Wednesday mornings that are really hard to wake up for.  I
guess after two days of sleeping late, my body thinks me waking up
early on Monday is just temporary and tonight I’ll be getting some good
sleep in.  So I guess the question is, am I the only one who
really doesn’t have a problem waking up on Monday?

Nomi missed the bus this morning and so I, world’s greatest brother™,
drove her to school.  Nothing makes you feel more like a soccer
mom than dropping someone off at school.  There’s a line of
traffic just before the school, of which 90% are minivans, and it just
made me feel….weird.  Anyway, apart from feeling like a soccer
mom, I felt like a terrorist today also.  No, I did not have
explosives in my car, but I had pliers in my pocket because the air
conditioner in my office has no knob and I just felt weird with pliers
in my pocket.  Ok, so as I write this I realize no one else will
quite understand what I mean exactly, but whatever….I know what it’s
all about.  (And yes, I did fix my air conditioner).

    Oh yea, it was freezing
this morning.  It was about 42° and I’m wearing a sweater right
now(and yes, my A/C is on in my office but thats not the point).
And when I say cold, I don’t mean cold like Leslie thinks of (70° with
a breeze is enough for her to whip out the parkas), I mean turn on the
heat in the car and sit on your hands cuz it’s cooooold
And I guess I’m having allergies or something because I’ve got a
stuffed up nose and sneeze fits galore.  Don’t ask me what I’m
allergic to because I have no idea. One minute I’m fine and the next,
I’m sneezing and trying to blow out the crap thats decided to lodge
itself in my nostrils.  As not to leave you with the thought of
snot, I’ll say I’m wearing a fucking awesome sweater I bought from
JCrew the other day.  I’m wheelin’, dealin’ and stylin’.
    Boo-ya!

  • Allegedly, it’s pay day!  We get paid on the 15th & 30th of
the month so I’m expecting someone to walk into my office with an
oversized novelty check, balloons and Ed McMahon to hand me the check.
Ok, so what I’m really expecting is a bland envelope with my name
potentially mis-spelled and a check in it.  It won’t be my regular
amount on the check as I havent worked 15 days but it’ll be
something.  I haven’t added anything to my bank account since
mid-August and I’ve charged so much crap that I’m afraid to look at my
American Express statement (which is still in its envelope somewhere on
    my desk).

Yesterday I went on a hunt for some supplies. I made out with some
post-it notes and a desk calendar.  Evidently we don’t stock pens
or paper in our building so I had to give an order request to the
secretary(or whatever her official title is).  Aside from that,
work has been pretty much the same old stuff.  I’m doing alot more
work than I usually do and I dont know how, but it gets all done in a
fairly good amount of time.  I guess I’m just talented.

I decided in the end not to take off work tomorrow for Rosh
Hashanah.  My reasoning was I didn’t feel right asking for a day
or even a half day off at a job where I’ve only been working for barely
a week.  And it’s not like I’m missing services or something, it’s
just a family party in Long Island.  In fact, the only reason I’d
really want to take the day off would be to be able to sleep in.
    Oh well, life goes on.

And by the way, I’ve made a new blog on my site that will include
reposts of these Xanga posts and probably other postings.  Check
    it out at http://blog.hochmania.com

  • Now that I’m working, I’m on a regular schedule for the first time
since probably high school.  Obviously I had a schedule in
college, but it was erratic.  One day I might have class at noon,
the next no class and the day after that class at 9.  Now, Monday
through Friday, I wake up at 6:50, leave the house at 7:30, get to work
at 8:30 and leave work at 4:30.  I’m definetly a creature of habit
so it’s working out to my advantage.  Except for the waking up and
going to bed early parts.  When you know you have to go to sleep
at a certain time and that you must fall asleep quickly or you’ll be
really tired the next day, it seems those are the nights that it’s
hardest to sleep.  I’ve been tossing and turning alot lately and
    it’s getting annoying.

My weekend was pretty dull.  Didn’t do anything and just sat
around the house.  I did enjoy not having to wake up early for
once and of course, the weekend is never long enough.  Anyway,
time to go back to work.

  • My first day of work is almost over with.  I slept pretty crappily
last night.  Turned off the tv at 10:30, but probably didnt
actually fall asleep until maybe midnight or so.  Then I woke up
at 6 and couldn’t fall back asleep so I got up.  After fighting
traffic to get here, I spent the morning setting up my computer,
getting my email & id cards and then sitting down in human
resources signing no less than 300 pieces of paper.

Anyway, I actually started working at around noon.  If you want to
see what I spent the afternoon working on, take a look:
    http://www.newhaven.edu/alumni/intlpics.html  It doesn’t look like
much but I had to spend so much time fighting with the coding to get it
to work that it took me forever to finish.  It took me so long,
that I didn’t take a lunch break.  Of course, I didn’t know when
it was exactly, and I didn’t see any sort of mass exodus, so I just
decided to skip lunch. Oh well, maybe I’ll eat tomorrow.

  • Just signed my letter of intent at U of New Haven.  I’m so excited
about it.  Tuesday is my first day and I have to be in at 8:30!
Seeing as I consider 11am early, this is gonna be quite a shock.
Pretty soon I’ll be going to bed at like 10.  Oh well.

I’ve been lazy but finally decided to scan this picture of me and (no,
not my kid) John’s kid.  Her name is Riley.  It was taken a
    week ago or so.

  • This latest chapter in my job hunt has been very frustrating.  As
I posted last week, I got a second job interview at University of New
Haven.  The position is for webmaster, and it’s a position that I
would love to have because it’s perfect for me.  The second
interview went really well.  I met the CIO, chatted with the
current webmaster and I left there with a really positive
attitude.  Everything seemed to be pointing to me getting the job
because alot of the rhetoric from the person who was interviewing me
seemed to point that way.  He asked if I could start next week,
and the last thing he said was what really stuck with me, which was he
commented that my attire(suit) was overdressed and that I could wear
khaki’s and a nice shirt instead.  He indicated to me that they’d
    make an offer by Wednesday.

Well, it’s Saturday now and I haven’t heard anything.  I’m not
mad, just frustrated. I’ve been like a teenage girl these past few
days; sitting by the phone and waiting for the phone call.  I cant
emphasize enough how well I’d do at this job and I just wish I could
just know if I got it or not.  My only salvation at this point is
the fact that the person that will be notifing me is very busy and
being slow with things is normal with him.  You what they say,
patience is a virtue and good things come to those who wait….

  • I’m so proud of myself.  I bought a wireless router yesterday so I
couldget my computer online upstairs in my room but the signal strength
was terrible.  Holding a connection was evidently, too much to
ask. I even rewired the entire downstairs network to gain an extra 10
feet or so closer and not much help.  I finally got it so it would
sort of work but if anyone walked in front of my door or basically in
the hallway in general, it would interfere with the connection.

So this morning I woke up because mhy computer was beeping at me cuz
the Internet was down.  After resetting the router and modem and
getting it back online, it looked like it was working but it was
uber-slow. So I played around with it and still it was being just plain
annoying.   I was really ready to box up the whole thing and
bring it back to Staples as soon as a car was available for me.
But because I’m a genius, I decided to tinker with some settings in the
router.  I throttled down the transfer rate from the default of
best to 2 Mbps and now, it’s working superb! I’m going to try it out
with some online games but I think I’ve nailed it down. In short, I’m
    the man.
